Four unmissable places to visit next Summer in Europe

Unfortunately Summer is well and truly over for the year, Autumn has arrived bringing along the colder mornings and cooler nights. I will admit there is magic with the colour changes of the seasons. So as I prepare for my first Winter in Europe, I’m reminiscing on my favourite season. Now if I’m completely honest, and those who have had the pleasure of hanging out with me lately will know I’m nervous for Winter. Why? Because being from Sydney, I've never had to live in temperatures that go below minus. However I am looking forward to waking up to snowfall. So as I patiently wait for Summer to come around again, these are the unmissable places in Europe you need to visit next Summer.

Zadar

The town with the most beautiful sunrise and sunset. This hidden gem of Croatia, located on the Dalmatian coast is one that can’t be missed. The town is only a three hour drive from the Capital City Zagreb.  Spend your days by the ocean, in particular at Kolovare Beach (which is the most well known in Zadar, and is only a short 20 minute walk from the center). Explore the old town and check out the markets that lead to the Sea Organ. This magical instrument plays music with the movement of the water and a place you can easily spend the afternoon. If you love being at the top of a town and overlooking it's beauty, then don't miss the opportunity to climb to the top of St. Anastasia's Cathedral tower.

Ohrid

If you ask me, the best kept secret of Macedonia is Ohrid. One of the most beautiful towns to visit in Summer, located by Lake Ohrid, and has one of the oldest human settlements in Europe. In the center of town you’ll find numerous café’s, bars and nightclubs that come alive during the summer. Days are spent by the lake, soaking in the suns rays and swimming until nightfall. Here is your chance to work on that tan. With Ohrid enriched with history, there are many places to visit including the popular Church ‘Church of Saints Clement and Panteleimon’. One of the most beautiful churches you will ever see.

Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik, my favourite town in the world and is now better known for being a filming location for Game of Thrones. Dubrovnik has to be one of the hottest cities I've come across during the Summer (which I love),  but you can easily escape the heat with a dip in Banje beach (I would recommend getting there early because it does get quite busy during the day). Banje Beach is just on the outside of the old town, and you can rent beach chairs, where you can sit and enjoy the sun. Banje Beach also has a restaurant & lounge club which serves drinks and food. So lunch is sorted. If you want to do a bit of exploring, you can catch a short boat ride to the little Island Lokrum, with boats leaving every 15 minutes. Here you can walk around the Island or relax by the crystal clear waters. If you want to go to one of the coolest bars out there, then don't go past Buza Bar, a bar situated in a rock that overlooks the ocean and to either side of you have people jumping off rocks, if you're daring enough you can even go and join them.

Mostar

Mostar was a city that surprised me, because all I thought it had was the old bridge where Red Bull Cliff diving competitions take place. It is so much more. Firstly it has a restaurant which has the best Cevapi I have ever had. National Restaruant Cevabzinica Tima - Irma.  I’m not kidding, me and my friends ended up having three rounds of Cevapi. You’re probably asking who even does that? We Do. And there were absolutely no regrets. The old town is beautiful and as you walk down the narrow alleyways you'll pass countless boutique/tourist gift stores. The atmosphere is amazing on a Summer evening with outdoor bars buzzing with people talking and enjoy a drink or two.
