Why you need to go to Odprta Kuhna in Ljubljana
I mean, food. Obviously. Do you need any other reason? No, okay so that's the end of the blog post.
Kidding. Odprta Kuhna, translated to Open Kitchen is located in Pogacarjev trg and is open every Friday from roughly 10 am to 10 pm. It was established by an Israelian Lior Kochavi, who followed his girlfriend to Slovenia. Now I'm not 100% sure if his girlfriend is Slovenian (I'm assuming she is), but as you can see, great things happen when you meet Slovenians. This is completely unbiased, coming from someone whose family is originally from this country and someone who is madly in love with the place. See unbiased.
It is open from late March to late October. It attracts crowds off people, who come and enjoy the array of food on display. There are also numerous places to sit and enjoy the meals, from the steps to tables. It's a brilliant way to taste not only traditional Slovenian foods, but also international dishes. oh I almost forgot there is wine available as well.
So I would recommend getting three servings, trying different foods, trust me no judgement from me, because I did just that.
I enjoyed macaroons, smoren (a Slovenian traditional meal/dessert - best served with nutella!) and a few other dishes.
Moral to the story - You're making a huge mistake if you don't stay in Ljubljana until Friday. Make it happen. You won't regret it.
